how long does it take to charge a laptop?
How long does it take to charge a laptop? I am wondering how long it takes to fully charge my laptop. I was told that my new one only stays charged for an hour! It will depend on the size of your battery, but if you are talking about a 100-watt hour battery, then probably 8-10 hours minimum. If you are talking about a big unit with a large screen, like some models of Dell’s Latitude series, there is no way to tell without knowing what kind of power supply/charger you have – some are old technology that gives 110 watts at 20 volts output (which means they waste power), while some newer ones out are more efficient. I have a Dell Vostro 1700 laptop with the larger battery (90 watt hour), and it takes about 8-10 hours to charge from ~20% remaining. I’ve tried using power supplies that are replaced by PCs manufactured about two years ago, but they only give 60 watts at 19 volts, so it will take longer to charge. The next step up would be having an actual AC/DC adapter made for laptops – I think most of those are rated at 90 watts or maybe 120 watts maximum – not sure on that one. I
‘ve had to replace two such adapters that were still in warranty and they never gave more than 90 watts into the laptop.
